This frame overlooks the St. Croix River just north of St. Croix Falls, WI.  This is another variation of the queen post cabin design.  There are many ways to lay out a floor plan for a frame like this, but here's an example main floor plan and loft floor plan.

 

I dreamed of building a timber frame retirement home for a long time.  The selection of a timber frame provider was something I took very seriously when the time finally came.  I chose Clark Bremer at Northern Lights Timber Framing and couldn't be more pleased with the result.  In addition to high quality joinery, the timber frame provided by Northern Lights for my home included cool details like chamfered edges, chamfered peg holes, and arched knee braces.  I also appreciate that they planted enough trees to replace the ones used for the timber frame.   

I gained an appreciation for the time and skill required to produce tight-fitting mortise and tenon joints after taking a class taught by Clark at North House Folk School.  With Clark's advice and coaching, I was able to complete the loft stairway, balcony, and door awning myself.

I recommend Northern Lights Timber Framing to anyone building a timber frame home.  I found Clark and his team to be skilled, honest, and trustworthy.
